WIN Gallery opens Carmen Marin's solo exhibition - "Beyond the Ordinary" – in the presence of high-ranking representatives from the Romanian Ministry of Culture, collectors, diplomats and art lovers
Bucharest, 29.10.2024 – With this new exhibition, WIN Gallery and Carmen Marin invite you to venture “Beyond the Ordinary” into an exhilarating, challenging and rewarding voyage from survival to joie de vivre. The works can be admired and purchased starting Monday, October 28th and will be on display until November 19th.
On Thursday, October 24th, WIN Gallery hosted a private reception marking the opening of Carmen’s Marin new exhibition – Beyond the Ordinary”. Tributary to Expressionism, she brings forth the intensity of emotion and thought that defy appearances and oversimplified “realities”. The collection at WIN Gallery represents a sequel to the one recently presented by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, under the title “Absences” and together they offer a window into the Carmen Marin’s artistic manifesto.
“I think it’s absurd to say that illusion and abstraction are the same. Yet I believe there is truth in absurdity (...) Facing every blank canvas, I attempt to reinvent myself. There will always be continuities with and breaks from the past, just as a given present moment always remains somehow attached to the immediate past and the immediate future”, says Carmen Marin.
A young yet very complex contemporary artist, Carmen Marin has built an impressive career both in Romania and abroad, enrapturing diverse audiences through her subtlety and layering of topics in a way that is both challenging and intellectually rewarding. Although fresh and innovative in her approach, she attentively studies the great modern masters and their echoes can be identified in her paintings. Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art, a specialized publication in the United States, recently dedicated a lengthy article to her work, flatteringly drawing parallels between her, Paul Cezanne and Piet Mondrian.
The increasing recognition of her work was reaffirmed during the event hosted by WIN Gallery. Ms. Diana Baciuna, Secretary of State under the Ministry of Culture, opened the evening by delivering remarks on Romanian contemporary art, with accolades toward Ms. Marin’s contributions and promoted the collaboration among public and private entities as a way to elevate the country’s image and potential. Mr. Ali Kshaish, a successful entrepreneur and long-time collector of Ms. Marin’s works offered his perspective and addressed the question whether being a collector starts with the passion or the focus on art as an alternative investment.
The wide appeal of Carmen Marin’s works also materialized in a literary collaboration with Mr. Porfirio Rodriguez, a permanent member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language, who graciously wrote an essay for WIN Gallery’s catalogue and sent video remarks. The intention is to illustrate the bond among visual arts and other disciplines, including literature and philosophy and their common role in creating more harmonious societies.
“With this exhibition we continue on our self-assumed mission to promote cultural diplomacy”, says Irina Stoenescu, President of WIN Gallery. “In the beginning of November, we will also be in Marbella, Spain, showcasing the works of Carmen Marin and Constantin Pacea, two remarkable Romanian artists with very solid reputations and rising quote. We are delighted to present them to the Spanish collectors and very grateful to our partners there, the General Consulate of Romania in Seville and the City Hall of Marbella. Special thanks go to Mr. Cosmin Mitrea, Consul General of Romania in Andaluzia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melia, and Ms. Andrada Berezintu, Consul within the same institution for being constant and extraordinary promoters of Romanian culture and economic ties between Spain and Romania”, added Ms Stoenescu.
The current collection at WIN Gallery and the special event in Marbella are generously supported by our partners: The General Consulate of Romania in Seville, The City Hall of Marbella, Concejalia de Extranjeros Residentes, Green Environment and Roy-Damboviceanu Corcova.
